A 14-year-old was shot and a teacher was injured Thursday afternoon at a middle school in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Live video from NBC station WXIA-TV showed police, emergency vehicles and an?ambulance?around Price Middle School, which is south of downtown Atlanta.
Police told the station that both of the injured people were alert, conscious and breathing. Later the station, citing school district and fire department officials, said that a 14-year-old was shot in head. The teacher reportedly suffered injuries during the panic during the incident.
The 14-year-old was taken to Grady Hospital. There was no word on the condition of either the 14-year-old or the teacher.
One suspect was in custody, WXIA ?and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,?reported.

Ford Motor Co. is expected this week to post record January sales for its new-generation Fusion midsize sedan, despite several recalls, a parts shortage and frustrated consumers who are requesting to have their vehicles bought back by Ford.
The Dearborn automaker could sell more than 21,000 of its 2013 Fusions in January, typically the weakest month for auto sales. That would top the car's previous January record, set in 2011, by nearly 50 percent. Ford launched its new Fusion in September.
The sales record would come just a month after Ford announced its third recall involving the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. The engine is available as an option in the Fusion and Escape SUV. Engine leaks and related fire risks prompted the November recall of some 2013 Fusions and Escapes.
"I don't think average consumer follows recalls very closely," said Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst at Edmunds.com in a telephone interview. "And when there are a lot of recalls, there are some people that feel that automakers are taking a proactive approach."
Engine overheating can lead to fluid leaks, which could come in contact with a hot exhaust, resulting in a fire. A software fix was supposed to fix the problem ? and it did, for most owners.
But follow-up pressure tests revealed the need for additional repairs on some engines. At one point, Ford said approximately 1,400 Fusions and Escapes, including some on dealer lots, were undrivable because of a parts shortage. The shortage, which included crank seals, water separators and head gaskets, depending on dealer location, caused further delays and subsequent requests by some owners to have their vehicles bought back.
Ford has not set up a special buyback program as a direct result of the recalls.
A Ford spokeswoman said she did not know how many Fusions or Escapes have been repurchased. "We are committed to working with our customers and dealers to ensure our customers are satisfied," the spokeswoman said in an email to The Detroit News.
Ford had offered rental vehicles to customers while their vehicles were being repaired.
Ford chief operating officer Mark Fields pledged in December to continue improving the quality of Ford's products.
"We've had a few issues, but our approach with any of our launches is if we see an issue, we proactively go out and fix it for our customers," Fields said at an event in Detroit last month.
A sharp rise in Fusion sales is attributed to supply finally catching up with demand. As of Jan. 3, Ford had 28,000 Fusions in-transit and headed to dealerships. The swelling inventory led to much stronger sales, which could top 21,000 this month.
"I think it's kind of where they want to be," Caldwell said of the sales total. "If you look at Camry or Accord, they're not too far off."
Demand for the Escape is also rising.
Ford sold more than 250,000 of the SUVs for the second straight year in 2012.
Official industrywide sales totals will be released Friday.

CORNING, N.Y. (AP) ? Revenue surged at Corning during the fourth quarter on strong demand for its Gorilla Glass, which is used in many smartphones and computer tablets.
Sales in the company's specialty materials division, which makes the glass, surged 68 percent in the final months of the year, and 10 percent above the previous quarter.
Shares of the company, based in Corning, N.Y., rose more than 1 percent in premarket trading.
Fourth-quarter net income fell 42 percent on restructuring costs and other charges.
Adjusted for one-time charges, Corning edged out Wall Street's per-share expectations by a penny.
Corning earned $283 million, or 19 cents per share, down from $491 million, or 33 cents per share, in the same quarter last year. Excluding one-time charges, the company posted an adjusted profit of 34 cents per share for the recent quarter.
Revenue rose 14 percent to $2.15 billion from $1.89 billion, which also beat out Wall Street predictions.
Sales of specialty materials totaled $399 million for the quarter, led by Gorilla Glass, which topped $1 billion in annual sales for the first time, according to Corning.
Display technologies sales rose 3 percent to $800 million, while telecommunications sales jumped 10 percent to $540 million.
Gross equity earnings at the company's Dow Corning Corp. joint venture, excluding one-time items, tumbled 33 percent to $33 million, hurt by weak solar industry sales.
For the full year, Corning earned $1.73 billion, or $1.15 per share, down from $2.81 billion, or $1.77 per share, in 2011. Revenue rose to $8.01 billion from $7.89 billion.
Corning said that while it expects specialty materials sales to fall in the first quarter, which is typically its slowest of the year, it expects double-digit market growth for Gorilla Glass for the full year.
Shares of Corning Inc. rose 25 cents to $12.30 in premarket trading.

ALGIERS (Reuters) - Suspected Islamist militants attacked an oil pipeline in northern Algeria on Monday, killing two guards and wounding seven other people, a security source told Reuters.
The Djebahia region, some 70 km (45 miles) east of the capital, is a stronghold of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) which earlier this month killed 37 foreigners at a gas plant in the south, and is where its leader Abdelmalek Droukdel is believed to be based, the source said.
Militant attacks are relatively rare in the north of the country where there is a heavy security presence that pushed most AQIM activities south.
"In comparison to the In Amenas attack, this is a very minor event," the source said, referring to the gas plant attack.
AQIM's leader Droukdel is believed to be somewhere in a triangle of three northern cities: Boumerdes, Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, some 1,600 km (1,000 miles) from In Amenas, and has limited contact with other senior members of the group, the source said.
"The links are almost non-existent, and evidence of that is that there are no Libyan weapons with AQIM's militants in the north," a security source who asked not to be named told Reuters. The In Amenas attackers used arms smuggled across the desert border from Algeria's eastern neighbor.

SAN DIEGO (AP) ? Tiger Woods never looked so irritated winning a golf tournament so comfortably.
His record eighth victory at Torrey Pines was all but over when Woods ripped a 5-iron from 244 yards over the corner of a bunker and onto the green at the par-5 13th hole, setting up a two-putt birdie that gave him an eight shot lead in the Farmers Insurance Open.
At least he had plenty of time to savor this victory. The final five holes felt like they took forever.
Woods twirled his club on the tee and leaned on it in the fairway as the final round dragged on. He lost rhythm and appeared to lose interest, and it showed. A bogey from the bunker on the 14th. A tee shot that caromed off a eucalyptus tree on the 15th hole that led to double bogey. A tee shot he popped up on the 17th hole that left him 50 yards behind the other players and led to another bogey.
"It got a little ugly at the end," Woods said. "I started losing patience a little bit with the slow play."
No matter. It only affected the margin, not the outcome. Woods had to settle for an even-par 72 that gave him a four-shot win over defending champion Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater, who each had a 69.
For a tour that has been criticized for slow play, this wasn't an ideal start to the network portion of its schedule. With Woods virtually a lock to win, CBS Sports wanted the final round to resume Monday later than normal so that it could be televised in late afternoon on the East Coast. Play was so slow that CBS went over its allotted time.
Woods, meanwhile, had the ideal start to his tour season.
Only a week earlier, he missed the cut in Abu Dhabi, in part because of a two-shot penalty assessed after his second round for taking an illegal drop. Woods had never missed the cut on the European Tour, and he had never started his season with the weekend off.
He might have been the only one who didn't panic.
Woods seized control with a 65 on the North Course at Torrey Pines, the spent the rest of the week pulling away from the field until no one could catch him.
"I don't know if anybody would have beaten him this week," said Nick Watney, who got within five shots of Woods when the tournament was still undecided until making three bogeys on his next five holes. "He's definitely on his game."
It's still too early to figure out the state of his game, especially in relation to Rory McIlroy, who also missed the cut in Abu Dhabi.
Torrey Pines is a public course that Woods treats like his private domain. He won the tournament for the seventh time, one short of the PGA Tour record for most wins in a single event. Sam Snead won the Greater Greensboro Open eight times. Woods won for the eighth time at Torrey Pines, including the 2008 U.S. Open, and that's a PGA Tour record that Woods previously shared with ... himself. He also has won seven times at Firestone and Bay Hill.
"I think he wanted to send a message," said Hunter Mahan, who shares a swing coach with Woods. "I think deep down he did. You play some games to try to motivate yourself. There's been so much talk about Rory. Rory is now with Nike. That would be my guess."
And it was his 75th win on the PGA Tour, seven short of the record held by Snead. Woods has won 23 of those tournaments by at least four shots.
"I'm excited the way I played all week," Woods said. "I hit the ball well ? pretty much did everything well and built myself a nice little cushion. I had some mistakes at the end, but all my good play before that allowed me to afford those mistakes."
Woods mostly had reason to be excited about his short game.
In the third round Sunday, he was furious with himself for going long on the par-3 eighth green, without much green between his ball and the hole. Woods hit a chip solidly, with just enough loft, to leave himself a tap-in par. In the conclusion of the final round Monday, he pulled his tee shot into a bad spot in the bunker on the par-3 11th. The lie was good, but he had to aim well left, meaning his legs were spread wide on the slope of the sand.
He blasted it out with his 60-degree wedge to a top shelf, and then watched it feed down a slope to the right. It lost pace at the end or it might have gone in.
It looked good for television. It was a difficult shot, but not impossible.
But Woods believes those are the shots he wasn't converting a year ago. And that's one reason his outlook was so bright on the rest of the year, even after having to cope with so much fog along the Pacific bluffs.
He played the par 5s in 12 under for the lead ? that alone would have been enough to win ? and attributed that to his short game.
"My short game was back to how I know it can be," Woods said. "My shots that I hit, especially out of these nasty little lies, I hit some really good ones this week. And that allowed me to save some pars, make some birdies, and move my way up the board. And basically, that's what I did."
Woods figures his swing change under Sean Foley took root at some point last year, but that he had devoted so much time to the swing that he neglected his wedges. Now that he is practicing more on his short game, he expects better results ? turning a 74 into a 70, and not losing leads at the majors, like he did twice last year.
Still, the season is young.
Any measure of Woods likely will have to wait until the road to the Masters gets going during the Florida Swing. Woods headed home to Florida on Monday night and is not expected to return until the Match Play Championship in Arizona a month from now. McIlroy also isn't expected to play until then, and match play being such a fickle format, the better gauge could come in the Honda Classic and at Doral.
Woods, however, likes where he is headed.
Torrey Pines is a good omen for the rest of his year. Whenever he starts a PGA Tour season with a win at Torrey, he tends to have big years ? eight wins and two majors in 2006, seven wins and a major in 2007, four wins in only six starts in 2008.
Where will this lead?
"Does it feel good? Yes. Does it give me confidence? Absolutely," Woods said. "But as far as the other stuff, as I said, I'm excited about this year. I'm excited about what I'm doing with Sean and some of the things that I've built. This is a nice way to start the year."

SINGAPORE?? Apple's iconic iPhone is losing some of its luster among Asia's well-heeled consumers in Singapore and Hong Kong, a victim of changing mobile habits and its own runaway success.
Driven by a combination of iPhone fatigue, a desire to be different and a plethora of competing devices, users are turning to other brands, notably those from Samsung Electronics, eating into Apple's market share.
In Singapore, Apple's products were so dominant in 2010 that more devices here ran its iOS operating system per capita than anywhere else in the world.
But StatCounter, which measures traffic collected across a network of 3 million websites, calculates that Apple's share of mobile devices in Singapore ? iPad and iPhone ? declined sharply last year. From a peak of 72 percent in January 2012, its share fell to 50 percent this month, while Android devices now account for 43 percent of the market, up from 20 percent in the same month last year.
In Hong Kong, devices running Apple's iOS now account for about 30 percent of the total, down from about 45 percent a year ago. Android accounts for nearly two-thirds.
"Apple is still viewed as a prestigious brand, but there are just so many other cool smartphones out there now that the competition is just much stiffer," said Tom Clayton, chief executive of Singapore-based Bubble Motion, which develops a popular regional social media app called Bubbly.
Leading indicators
Where Hong Kong and Singapore lead, other key markets across fast-growing Asia usually follow.
"Singapore and Hong Kong tend to be, from an electronics perspective, leading indicators on what is going to be hot in Western Europe and North America, as well as what is going to take off in the region," said Jim Wagstaff, who runs a Singapore-based company called Jam Factory?that's developing mobile apps for enterprises.
Southeast Asia is adopting smartphones fast ? consumers spent 78 percent more on smartphones in the 12 months up to September 2012 than they did the year before, according to research company GfK.
Android rising
Anecdotal evidence of iPhone fatigue isn't hard to find: Where a year ago iPhones swamped other devices on the subways of Hong Kong and Singapore, they are now outnumbered by Samsung and HTC smartphones.
While this is partly explained by the proliferation of Android devices, from the cheap to the fancy, there are other signs that Apple has lost followers.
Singapore entrepreneur Aileen Sim recently launched an app for splitting bills called BillPin, settling on an iOS version because that was the dominant platform in the three countries she was targeting ? Singapore, India and the United States.
"But what surprised us was how strong the call for Android was when we launched our app," she said.
Indeed, 70 percent of their target users ? 20-something college students and fresh graduates ? said they were either already on Android or planned to switch over.
"Android is becoming really hard to ignore, around the region and in the U.S. for sure, but surprisingly even in Singapore," she said. "Even my younger early-20s cousins are mostly on Android now."
BillPin launched an Android version this month.
Standing out from the crowd
Napoleon Biggs, chief strategy officer at Gravitas Group, a Hong Kong-based mobile marketing company, said that while Apple and the iPhone remained premium brands there, Samsung's promotional efforts were playing to an increasingly receptive audience.
For some, it is a matter of wanting to stand out from the iPhone-carrying crowd. Others find the higher-powered, bigger-screened Android devices better suited to their changing habits ? watching video, writing Chinese characters ? while the cost of switching devices is lower than they expected, given that most popular social and gaming apps are available for both platforms.
"Hong Kong is a very fickle place," Biggs said.
Janet Chan, a 25-year-old Hong Kong advertising executive, has an iPhone 5, ?but its fast-draining battery and the appeal of a bigger screen for watching movies is prodding her to switch to a Samsung Galaxy Note II.
"After Steve Jobs died, it seems the element of surprise in product launches isn't that great anymore," she said.
Shifting trends
To be sure, there are still plenty of people buying Apple devices. Stores selling their products in places such as Indonesia were full over the Christmas holidays, and the company's new official store in Hong Kong's Causeway Bay has queues snaking out of the door most days.
But the iPhone's drop in popularity in trendy Hong Kong and Singapore is mirrored in the upmarket malls of the region.
"IPhones are like Louis Vuitton handbags," said marketing manager Narisara Konglua in Bangkok, who uses a Galaxy SIII. "It's become so commonplace to see people with iPads and iPhones so you lose your cool edge having one."
In the Indonesian capital Jakarta, an assistant manager at Coca Cola's local venture, Gatot Hadipratomo, agrees. The iPhone "used to be a cool gadget, but now more and more people use it," Hadipratomo said.
There is another influence at play: hip Korea. Korean pop music, movies and TV are hugely popular around the region, and Samsung is riding that wave. And while the impact is more visible in Hong Kong and Singapore, it also translates directly to places like Thailand.
"Thais are not very brand-loyal," says Akkaradert Bumrungmuang, 24, a student at Mahidol University in Bangkok. "That's why whatever is hot or the in-thing to have is adopted quickly here. We follow Korea, so whatever is fashionable in Korea will be a big hit."
This report was written by Jeremy Wagstaff in Singapore, with additional reporting by Lee Chyen Yee in Hong Kong, Khettiya Jittapong and Amy Sawitta Lefevre in Bangkok, and Andjarsari Paramaditha in Jakarta.

Twenty-six thousand years ago in the Czech Republic, one of our ice-age ancestors selected a hunk of mammoth ivory and carved this enigmatic portrait of a woman - the oldest ever found. By looking at artefacts like this as works of art, rather than archaeological finds, a new exhibition at the British Museum in London hopes to help us see them and their creators with new eyes.
Human ancestors date back millions of years, but the earliest evidence of the human mind producing symbolic imagery as a form of creative expression cannot be much older than 100,000 years. That evidence comes from Africa: this exhibition explores the later dawning of representative art in Europe and shows that?even before the remarkable paintings of the Lascaux cave, France, humans were able to make work as subtle as the expressive face above.
"By looking at the oldest European sculptures and drawings we are looking at the deep history of how our brains began to store, transform and communicate ideas as visual images," says Jill Cook, the show's curator. "The exhibition will show that we can recognise and appreciate these images. Even if their messages and intentions are lost to us, the skill and artistry will still astonish the viewer."
Cook points to a figurative 23,000-year-old mammoth ivory sculpture from Lespugue, France, which is also in the exhibition. It so fascinated Pablo Picasso with its cubist qualities that he kept two copies of it. "This figure demonstrates a visual brain capable of abstraction, the essential quality needed to acquire and manipulate knowledge which underpins our ability to analyse what we see," says Cook.

Crystal Symphony
Crystal Cruises is eyeing affluent travelers by offering exclusive Mediterranean excursions on its spring itineraries that cannot be accessed through other travel brands.
The cruise line?s new collection of experiences called ?Boutique Adventures? will be available this spring for groups ranging from one to 15 travelers on Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity ships sailing to the Mediterranean. Guests will have exclusive access to estates, art studios, museums, castles and businesses.
?Our guests are looking for different ways to experience destinations and they relish insider access,? said Mimi Weisband, vice president of public relations at?Crystal Cruises, Los Angeles. ?We are continually challenging our tour operators to seek out the unusual, experiential, intimate, cultural adventures.
?Our guests do not want a mass-market excursion ? they will pay more for something if it is unique and authentic,? she said.
Cruising the Mediterranean
There are seven Boutique Adventures that guests can choose. The cost ranges from $223 to more than $1,000 per guest.
Travelers can book the excursions online up to six months before their cruise.
The Florence excursion comprises a viewing of the Uffizi Gallery?s private Contini Bonacossi Collection, which is not accessible to the public.
In Funchal, Portugal, guests will have lunch with a local celebrity at Reid?s Palace or visit a family-run Madeiran winery where they will dine with the owners.
During the Rome experience, guests will make their own jewelry with instruction from a former Valentino model who now designs jewelry.
The Corfu, Greece, excursion consists of a painting lesson from the president of the Corfu Painters Society.
In Italy?s Vetriano, guests will attend the opera at Teatro Concordia, the?smallest public theater in the world.
Teatro Concordia
Excursions in Sorrento and Taormina, Italy, comprise?cooking lessons and meals with local, Michelin-star chefs.
In Taormina in Italy?s Sicily region, travelers will be served a meal while watching a classical concert at a Sicilian castle.
Crystal Cruises will promote the Boutique Adventures via its Web site, quarterly magazine and the on-board Shore Excursion team, per Ms. Weisband.
In addition, travel agents will also inform their clients about the experiences.
?The cruise industry has been becoming more aware of the large portion of the affluent travelers who shy away from cruises due to many misconceptions and overall lack of desire to be on-board the mega-ships,? said D.M. Banks, director at?DMB Public Relations, New York.
?Crystal Cruises is always looking at ways to provide the luxuries of cruises, while providing a boutique experience for their guests,? he said. ?This is another example of them thinking outside of the box to truly connect with their guests.
?Affluent travelers are more than happy to pay a premium for superior services and, more importantly, unique and personalized experiences. These intimate and semi-private excursions are great ways for guest to feel more immersed into the culture and destinations while at port.?
Story time
The new Boutique Adventures are meant to align with Crystal Cruises? ?Begin a New Story? ad campaign that launched last year, per Ms. Weisband.
The cruise line rebranded itself during the second quarter of 2012 through an all-encompassing campaign that centers on the notion of the travel journal and encourages consumers to share memories from past cruises.
The marketing efforts focus on cruise destinations and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, rather than the amenities of the ship.
Begin a New Story uses multiple channels including print ads with digital watermark technology, brochures, online banner ads, email, video and a smartphone app.
For instance, print ads appear in Cond? Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveler, Town & Country, Travel & Leisure, Coastal Living, Elle D?cor, Food & Wine and Forbes Life.
Consumers can scan the ads with their smartphones to reveal a 60-second video that shows three travelers? experiences in select Crystal Cruises? destinations through watercolor animation.
The brand asked eight watercolor artists to create images that are used in all aspects of the campaign (see story).
?The trend for affluent consumers is more intimate and incredibly special ? both of which are key to these excursions,? Ms. Weisband said.
?Entering someone?s home, sharing a meal with them and just a few other guests, and being able to hear in-depth stories of living and working in that area from your host ? these are experiences that can be deeply personal, bonding and memorable, really expanding one?s understanding of a culture far beyond any info gleaned from merely sight-seeing,? she said.
?Affluent consumers crave such experiences that go beyond the norm, as so many of them travel at a level well above the basics.?

GENEVA (AP) ? The U.N. panel that settles claims for damages from victims of Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait has paid out another $1.3 billion ? bringing the total so far to $40.1 billion.
The U.N. Compensation Commission did not disclose the identities of the claimants on Thursday but said the money goes toward settling two claims for damages to Kuwait's oil fields, as well as production and sales losses.
The Geneva-based commission was established by the U.N. Security Council in 1991 and is funded by a 5 percent tax on the export of Iraqi oil.
It has approved $52.4 billion in total compensation to more than 100 governments and international organizations, and makes payments every three months.

On a recent day in the Rockaways, a neighborhood in Queens, N.Y., hazmat-suited volunteers far outnumber anyone else on the streets. They are "mucking and gutting" ? stripping homes to the studs to remove mold. Many residents are concerned about the health effects of mold exposure, according to community organizer Peter Corless. Mycologist Joan Bennett has been sampling fungi in homes damaged by Sandy to determine which species are present.
